It's probably time to retype this entry so here it goes. I've had this journal for six years. It was public for awhile until an unsavory friend started commenting. Since then it's been used mostly for venting, quizzes, and whatever crossed my mind. Now it's being used for all those things along with fannish things. I have a fanfiction archive ([livejournal.com profile] yellow_violets) that's being updated to include the fics I've written, but if you want to stay current, come here first. Sometimes I have discussions. For the most part, they've been flocked, but I'd be interesting and hearing other people's opinions. The basic stuff about me. My name is Destiny, I'm 21 years old, I'm black or African American if you prefer. I'm pretty peppy by nature, which is strange as I used to mumble about people who were peppy in the morning. I currently live at home. Working my way into going back to school. Oh by the way I love to learn, but I have a love/hate relationship with formal education. Younger sister. Aunt to many. I love books and music. I'm also fond of buying electronics.

I liked [livejournal.com profile] heureviolet's quote post, so I decided I do one of my own. Except I'm going to write the quotes in this post instead of the comments. I think it'd be easier for me to keep up with that way. Feel free to comment.

Before I give my body, I must give my thoughts, my mind, my dreams. And you weren't having any of those.- Sylvia Plath
11. I love people. Everybody. I love them, I think, as a stamp collector loves his collection. Every story, every incident, every bit of conversation is raw material for me. My love's not impersonal yet not wholly subjective either. I would like to be everyone, a cripple, a dying man, a whore, and then come back to write about my thoughts, my emotions, as that person. But I am not omniscient. I have to live my life, and it is the only one I'll ever have. And you cannot regard your own life with objective curiosity all the time...-Sylvia Plath

14. I have known the joy and pain of friendship. I have served and been served. I have made some good enemies for which I am not a bit sorry. I have loved unselfishly, and I have fondled hatred with the red-hot tongs of Hell. That's living.- Zora Neale Hurston
15. Love is like the sea. It's a moving thing, but still and all, it takes its shape from the shore it meets, and it's different with every shore.- Zora Neale Hurston

46. I am still so naïve; I know pretty much what I like and dislike; but please, don’t ask me who I am. A passionate, fragmentary girl, maybe?-Sylvia Plath

48. Art is magic delivered from the lie of being truth.-Theodor Adorno
49. A writer — and, I believe, generally all persons — must think that whatever happens to him or her is a resource. All things have been given to us for a purpose, and an artist must feel this more intensely. All that happens to us, including our humiliations, our misfortunes, our embarrassments, all is given to us as raw material, as clay, so that we may shape our art.- Jorge Luis Borges

51. Birth is the start of loneliness and loneliness the start of poetry...-Erica Jong
52. Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death.-Anais Nin
53. Anxiety is love's greatest killer. It makes one feel as you might when a drowning man holds unto you. You want to save him, but you know he will strangle you with his panic.-Anais Nin

Please share this! Thank you!

In June I began working for a major cable TV provider. This was a job paying $11.50 an hour, giving full benefits, full coverage life insurance, and retirement plans. Not to mention commission and bonus opportunities. All ducks were lined up perfectly… until they were not.

To make this short, I was recently forced to quit my job due to my anxiety disorder. Because of my condition, I could not handle the job and respectfully resigned before the problem became more severe.

I am now unemployed and not sure if or when I’ll be able to hold down another job. I’m now in need of a way to bring in income. I’ve applied for Disability (SSI), but this could take up to 6 months. I need to bring in between $300-500 a month to be able to pay my bills, save up for a car, essentials for my cat, emergencies, and fun money.

First, I am open and needing suggestions about work from home jobs. Any and all ideas welcomed except for surveys! I’ve been there and done that.

I also have a modest Etsy shop set up and have a few things listed for sale on eBay.

Second, I’m willing to offer the following services in exchange for a monetary donation of the client's choosing:

Proofreading
- I’m willing and able to proof book reports, essays, reports, biographies (auto and narrative), resumes, fiction works (fanfic as well), and letters/emails. I ask that all requests do not exceed 10 pages, thank you.

Credentials: I was in CP/AP english during high school, graduated on the honor roll, and have 2.5 years of college under my belt. I’ve also been writing fanfiction for 9 years.

Text/quotes icon packs- Am willing to make packs of 5-20 100x100 icons with any texts/quotes of your choosing. A background and text color pallet can be pre-selected by client at time of order.

Credentials: Some of my own text/quote icons (different color combos and monitors will make the quality differ)

Donation will be due at the time of delivery, or I will withhold the finished product. There is no set amount and the client can give as much or little as they wish.

If interested in helping me out, please comment here or send a PM. If you aren’t interested in my offerings, please do me a favor and share this. Thank you.

A poet is the most unpoetical of anything in existence; because he has no identity — he is continually informing — and filling some other body.-John Keats

Maya Angelou on writing poems.

Like a pianist runs her fingers over the keys, I'll search my mind for what to say. Now, the poem may want you to write it. And then sometimes you see a situation and think, "I'd like to write about that." Those are two different ways of being approached by a poem, or approaching a poem. source

So I've never been the biggest fan of the military. As a teenager I was against the war in Iraq, but I never really thought too much about the military. A guy I was crushing on was planning on going in and me being all Bella-like was prepared to be a military wife. So no at that point I didn't really have anything against going into the military.

But the events of the past few years plus my self learning into how black Americans are treated in this country have really made me gain more of an opinion on this topic. I was reading a post on FB about a black woman that supposedly committed suicide while enlisted. But it all the clues didn't add up. She may or may not have been murdered. But the military, the people she was basically giving her life for closed the case. They agreed with the coroner.

Now some you may know that my boyfriend has been planning to enlist in the National Guard. When he told me I was afraid. I didn't want him to go because I didn't want to lose him. At that point I wasn't necessarily thinking about the fact that he would be a black man in the military. But as I got home and processed it more I started to ruminate. You would have to be under the deepest rock in the sea to not notice at how many black people are being killed in America. It's not just black men though they are more visible. I don't understand why as a black person you would enlist in a army to defend a country that does not care about you. I just don't. I'm sure we as black people feel patriotic just like everyone else. But for me that does not extend to my life on the line for a country that would spit on my grave. Just no.

One of my LJ friends asked me to post the story I sent to my boyfriend. It's a very short story but it seems up what I wrote above in a fictional way.

The poem I want to share today is beautiful by Michelle Tea. I first became aware of Michelle Tea by trolling the wiki. I think I was looking at the queercore article and it led to her page. After this, I bought one of her books. It was an experience. It was slightly different but nice. I really like her writing. This poem was the second of her poems in the spoken word anthology. It's about America. I think it speaks to the experience many have us have of not being accepted because of things we can't control and the way our country views us. So without further ado.

After I finished watching the trailer for the first(?) time I started to think. I was in bed with Martel and we started to talk.

My first thought was that the John Boyega character couldn't be real stormtropper. I thought this because the stormtroppers are all clones of Jango Fett. Then we thought maybe he's a good guy that's dressing up in the gear. I mean given that he looks like he's trying to get away I can see that.

And the Sith at the end? The only thing I've been worried about is that they might try to bring Vader back. But seeing the Sith and it looks nothing like him I have hope. I think he could probably be a secret apprentice to either Palpatine or Vader? I know they did that sort of stuff in the EU.

And I recall seeing the lightsaber design like that before? I didn't see the promotional picture until today but I really recall seeing a similar design like that somewhere. I'm thinking in the EU maybe?

Anyway those are my thoughts. I hope we get some character names. I want to see the trio in one of these trailers at least. Maybe when we get the full two minute one?
