Sep. 19th, 2013 02:42 amSo this motherfucking rant has been brewing in my mind for awhile.
Okay so check out these links if you would. First the science fiction literary criticism tag on BN Link and now the romance fiction literary criticism tag Link.
Now do you see what I see? There are at least 2,500 products under the science fiction tag. But the romance fiction tag has less than 200. Um...wtf?
See I was just ranting about this on twitter. Why in the hell is science fiction more deserving of academic attention? I mean both genres are categorized as genre fiction compared to the more serious literary fiction. But the romance criticism is woefully underused and if you look a good number of those books are on Jane Austen which apparently is the only romance that is acceptable to like. WHAT?
Perhaps I am thinking too much of this. But dammit the hate the romance genre gets. It's a genre for a women's fantasies. So motherfucker? Like science fiction and hell like any genre isn't somebody's fantasy? Why does the romance genre get automatically hated. You know why I'm thinking it is? SEXISM.
And shit if I feel like just doing a whole lot of criticism and theory and whatever on the motherfuckering romance genre. Except I don't know exactly how to do that. BUT YOU BET YOUR ASS I CAN LEARN!
Late night rant that has been stewing in the depths on my mind.
