Summary: I discuss my muse and what inspires me.

The first thing you need to know about my muse if that she’s a fickle mistress. For the longest time, I couldn’t write anything. I just wasn’t inspired. I went through the motions of trying to write. I bought books on writing; I bought tons of pens and notebooks. But nothing would come. Before this major writer’s block had come on, I had written tons. Of course at this time, I was being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and my creativity was very high, but still I was writing.

After being diagnosed and getting on medication, I still wrote a little bit. But around 2008, I moved to a new city. I don’t know if the move changed me or I was just sad, but I became more dependent on the internet. I think this is because I had left my friends behind and I needed the social interaction. But during this time, I stopped writing and reading as well. I merely talked about it. I also got sick again.

It wasn’t until 2011 that my muse returned to me. It was a strange experience. There I was just listening to Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” and an idea formed in my head. So I wrote a story that was intended to be a one shot, but the readers encouraged me to continue it and so I did. It was this point that I discovered one of my greatest inspirations: music.

I’ve always listened to music, but it wasn’t until this year that I really started to pay attention to it. The lyrics, the instruments, and the melody, all of those things combined really inspire me. Now I must have it when I write. My muse has returned to me for the moment. I’ve been taking advantage of it because like I said before she can be fickle. But I think we’ve worked out an agreement.
